This website is brought to you in association with the Barrow-in-Furness Branch of the Submariners Association and is the premier UK internet resource for Submariners and anyone interested in Royal Navy Submarines.

Vickers and Barrow are names synonymous with the development of the submarine. Hundreds of submarines covering virtually every class have been built for the Royal Navy and foreign Navies. This site is dedicated to not only to those who have served on Her Majesty's Submarines but also to those employees past and present whose skills and efforts have given pride to the phrase 'Barrow built' and made the name Vickers known and respected throughout the world.

1939 Trident (N 52) Completed
1940 Swordfish (N 61) HMS Swordfish attacks the German torpedo boats Falke and Kondor with torpedoes in the English Channel about 12 nautical miles north-east of Cherbourg, France. All torpedoes missed their target.
1940 Union (N 56) Launched
1941 Talisman (N 78) HMS Talisman attacks an Italian convoy with torpedoes in the Zea Channel missing the Italian merchant Lauretta. Talisman was heavily depth charged by the escorting Italian torpedo boat Libra.
1942 United (P 44) HMS United torpedoes and damages the Italian merchant Ravenna near Locri, Calabria, Italy. The Ravenna was already grounded after air attack.
1943 Sickle (P 224) HMS Sickle fires three torpedoes against the German auxiliary submarine chaser UJ 2210 off Portoferraio, Elba Island, Italy. The three torpedoes missed their target.

2024 Agamemnon (S 124) Agamemnon was rolled out of the build hall and onto the ship-lift at Barrow and lowered into the water for the first time the following day
