This website is brought to you in association with the Barrow-in-Furness Branch of the Submariners Association and is the premier UK internet resource for Submariners and anyone interested in Royal Navy Submarines.

Vickers and Barrow are names synonymous with the development of the submarine. Hundreds of submarines covering virtually every class have been built for the Royal Navy and foreign Navies. This site is dedicated to not only to those who have served on Her Majesty's Submarines but also to those employees past and present whose skills and efforts have given pride to the phrase 'Barrow built' and made the name Vickers known and respected throughout the world.

On This Day - September 11

1939 Seahorse (S 98) HMS Seahorse was undocked.
1941 Thunderbolt (N 25) HMS Thunderbolt torpedoes and sinks the German merchant Livorno about 35 nautical miles west-south-west of Benghazi, Libya.
1941 O 24 (Dutch) Encountered a Motor-Torpedo Boat. Five minutes later two torpedo tracks were seen coming from starboard which were evaded. O24 cleared the area at speed.
1943 Rorqual (N 74) HMS Rorqual lays her remaining 20 mines off Lemnos, Greece.
1944 Venturer (P 68) Torpedoed and sank the Norwegian merchant Vang off Lister, Norway
2001 Terrorist Attacks Terrorist attacks on the United States result in the destruction of the two largest towers of the World Trade Center in New York by civilian airliners. A third plane crashes into the Pentagon in Arlington VA; a fourth plane crashes when the passengers overpower the hijackers
