Vickers and Barrow are names synonymous with the development of the submarine. Hundreds of submarines covering virtually every class have been built for the Royal Navy and foreign Navies. This site is dedicated to not only to those who have served on Her Majesty's Submarines but also to those employees past and present whose skills and efforts have given pride to the phrase 'Barrow built' and made the name Vickers known and respected throughout the world.

| 1941 | Unique (N 95) | HMS Unique torpedoes and damages (total loss) the Italian cargo ship Arsia at Lampedusa harbour. |
| 1942 | Traveller (N 48) | HMS Traveller departed Gibraltar for her 1st war patrol. This is a work-up patrol in the Alboran Sea. |
| 1943 | Taurus (P 339) | HMS Taurus sinks two sailing vessels with gunfire in the Aegean Sea off Cape Pounta. |
| 1943 | Unruffled (P 46) | HMS Unruffled torpedoes and sinks the French tanker Henri Desprez (9895 GRT) about 70 nautical miles north-east of Messina. |

During WWII, the standard camouflage scheme for British Submarines operating in the Mediterranean was light and dark green and some were even painted pink. Submarines operating in the Gulf waters have displayed a khaki colour.
Launched in 1945 and commissioned two years later, submarine HMS Alliance was built for service with the Royal Navy in the Far East. Alliance had a long and distinguished career of more than 28 years that took her all over the world.
Today, Alliance is the centrepiece at the Royal Navy Submarine Museum, Gosport, where the submarine experience is brought to life by tours around the boat. Former submariner and historian Peter Goodwin gives Alliance the Haynes Manual treatment, examining in detail her construction and restoration, and describing what it was like to live, work and go to war in a submarine.
